Start of studies Master Accounting and Auditing

On May 4, 2020, the 8th class started with 27 students in the joint master's program in Accounting and Auditing of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU). Due to the corona pandemic, however, it was not possible to start the program in the usual attendance form. Instead, students were invited to the first online kick-off this year. In a joint video conference the course contents were presented by the course directors Prof. Dr. Peter Kajüter (WWU) and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens (RUB). The students also had the opportunity to get to know each other. The highlight of the kick-off event was an online fireside chat, in which the students were able to discuss current developments in accounting and auditing in the Corona crisis with representatives of the Big Four auditing companies, the Institute of Auditors and the course directors.

The continuing education master's program "Accounting and Auditing" is aimed at bachelor's students who wish to become auditors. Students study for 3.5 years from May to October and work in the auditing practice from November to April. This is an excellent way to combine a master's degree with professional practice. "In the Accounting and Auditing Master's program, students receive both academic training and a targeted professional qualification, enabling them to apply the theoretical knowledge and methods they have learned directly in practice during their studies," reports Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens.

The content of the Master's program prepares students comprehensively for the subsequent auditing examination. Lecturers from the two participating universities as well as lecturers from auditing practice provide students with the necessary specialist knowledge, taking into account the latest scientific findings. The knowledge transfer focuses on the topics of applied business administration, commercial law, tax law, accounting and auditing. Due to the recognition of the Master's program according to § 8a WPO, the exams taken during the course of study are partially credited in the subsequent auditing examination. This makes it easier for students to pass the professional exams later on.
