Pellens University Award 2020

The Pellens University Award was presented for the first time on December 14, 2020. This award honors outstanding achievements in the field of business research or university teaching. In the field of research, post-doctoral theses, dissertations, master's theses and other scientific achievements that are characterized by a high practical relevance can be awarded. In addition, the Pellens Foundation, established by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens at the end of 2019, can also award scholarships to students who demonstrate excellent academic performance in the field of applied business administration.

The selection of the sponsored projects is made - on the suggestion of the Institute for Corporate Management (ifu) of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum - by the board of the Alwin Reemtsma Foundation, which includes the Chancellor of the Ruhr-Universität.

This year's Pellens University Prize was awarded to Dr. André Schmidt for his outstanding post-doctoral thesis on "Institutions of the German Corporate Governance Audit, Shareholder Rights and Financial Reporting". The award was presented by the founder of the prize, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens, and by the Executive Scientific Director of the Institute for Corporate Governance, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Knauer.

After studying economics at Ruhr University Bochum, Dr. André Schmidt was employed as a research assistant at the Chair of International Business Accounting until 2020. He was awarded his doctorate summa cum laude in 2012 and the Faculty of Economics habilitated him in business administration in July 2020. Since October 01, 2020 he has been working in the accounting department of Amprion GmbH, Dortmund.
